DOTC denies blacklist of Czech MRT bidder

MANILA, Philippines—Almost three weeks since rumors of irregularities in the bidding process for new metro rail trains hit the press, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has finally spoken out, saying it was investigating the matter.   In a statement on Friday, DOTC Secretary Joseph Abaya said he had already initiated an investigation into the reports that some DOTC officials tried to extort P30 million from the Czech company Inekon in exchange for a favorable result in the bidding for the P3.77-billion capacity expansion project of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).   At the same time, Abaya said he wanted to "set the record straight ...
