Butuan clash a 'misencounter', says communist leader

DAVAO CITY -- Communist leader Jorge Madlos denied that New People's Army rebels ambushed troops, who were securing a group of Catholic faithfuls during Good Friday's station of the cross in Barangay (village) Anticala in Butuan City. A militiaman was killed in the 5 a.m. attack, which coincided with the NPA's anniversary. "I called up our field commanders (NPA) and they said they have not sent forces to the area," Madlos told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone. He said he suspected the incident was the result of a "misencounter" among soldiers, militiamen and policemen, who were securing the religious rites....
