Phillip Westwater Escapes: 'Black Dog Strangler' On The Run Jan 2nd 2013, 19:12 A convicted killer - dubbed the "Black Dog Strangler" - has escaped from a secure psychiatric hospital in Newcastle. Police are hunting 44-year-old Phillip Westwater, who fled St Nicholas Hospital on Jubilee Road in Gosworth, at 10am, after asking to go to the toilet. He is described as white, 6ft tall, of slim build with brown/grey hair. He undressed in the lavatories before he escaped so there is no description of what he might be wearing. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Officers are making inquiries into this individual and any risks he may or may not pose.
