Washington DC: Today Her Excellency Mwanaidi Sinare Maajar, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United States and Mexico today (yesterday) attended the swearing in ceremony of the new USAID Director to Tanzania, Ms. Sharon Cromer held at the Ronald Reagan Building at 1400 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington DC.
In a well attended short ceremony of USAID staff based in DC and Dar es salaam respectively via streaming, Ambassador Maajar underscored solid relations that United States of America and Tanzania have enjoyed throughout the years.
As she welcomed Ms. Cromer to Tanzania, she mentioned a few programs that are implemented by the US Government and are directly under USAID such as the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania, Feed the Future Program, Global Health Initiative and Education saying that all these programs are implemented and results are seen and that is why our relations continue to mushroom. Ambassador Maajar assured Ms. Cromer the Embassy of Tanzania's support towards her transition into her new post.
Her assignment to Tanzania comes after Tanzania was selected by the American Government (with three other countries) to participate in the Partnership for Growth Program, a USAID effort aimed at accelerating and sustaining broad-based economic growth among countries with a proven track record in policy and development.
Ambassador Maajar also thanked the USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah for working so closely with Tanzania and for believing in our vision as a partner in development.
"There is no single occasion that I have been with here at the USAID that Shah would not mention Tanzania in his remarks, whether the event had or did not have anything to do with us. He has been a true friend and a true partner in development", concluded Ambassador Maajar.
The USAID administrator Rajiv Shah noted remarkable work that Ms. Cromer has done throughout the years in country and outside the US where she has served as USAID country Director in Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Pakistan and Senegal. From May 2010 Ms. Cromer has been in the US serving as USAID's Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for Africa.
Mr. Shah also reiterated the excellent relations between the two countries and that Ms. Cramer will find a home away from home in Tanzania.
In her speech just after being sworn in, Ms. Cromer thanked those in attendance, USAID staff and the Administrator, promising to represent her country well and work with Tanzanian people in promoting the developmental agenda.
While in Tanzania, Ms. Cromer will oversee USAID's $530-million program to improve access to and the quality of health and education, strengthen governance, and contribute to economic growth in ways that improve food security and protect natural resources.
