Chess Tournament Kicks Off At Peoria Civic Center

The 39th annual IHSA team chess tournament is underway at the Peoria Civic Center.
138 high school teams from all over the state are competing against each other for the state title. IHSA officials say more than 1,500 students are registered to play which makes it the largest chess tournament in the country.
Chess teams battle against other high school based on rankings. The team that has the most points at the end of the tournament will take the state title.
The tournament takes place on February 8-9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Peoria Civic Center.
