Defending champion Nigel Short must have felt his age but take nothing away from Saptarshi Roy who played and took his chances well to register the upset of the day. Other top boards, Jan Gustafsson, Koneru Humpy, Oliver Barbosa, Sune Berg Hansen, Mark Paragua, Rogelio Antonio and Zhao Zong-Yuan however made no mistake and together with Wan Yunguo, Wang Chen, Attila Czebe, Hamed Nouri and Ralf Akesson, remain perfect on 3/3.
