A massive winter storm has blanketed much of the central US, dumping heavy snow and prompting tornado warnings.
Millions of people in 24 states were expected to be affected by the storm before it peters out when it reaches the Great Lakes on Friday or Saturday.
However a second system of winter weather is then expected from the Gulf of Mexico - smothering parts of the East Coast with up to two feet of snow on Saturday and Sunday.
