Cargo vessel sinks off Masbate; rescue on

MANILA, Philippines -- A cargo ship with close to 60 passengers and crew sank off Masbate province early Friday and rescue operations are being conducted as of posting time, authorities said. Senior Police Officer 3 Armando Habibon of Masbate police said the M/V Mt Carmel sank off the waters of Barangay (village) Peñafrancia, Burias Island around 2 a.m. Habibon said the vessel was carrying two buses from Isarog Lines with 35 passengers and 22 crew members. Initial reports reaching the Philippine Coast Guard said the vessel was on its way to Aroroy, Masbate from the Pio Duran Port in Albay.  ...
