3rd St. Joseph's International Chess Championship in India Jun 26th 2013, 16:30 The 3rd St. Joseph's International Chess Championship is set to take place from June 28th to July 3rd at the St Joseph's College of Engineering, Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), Sholinganallur, Chennai-119.
It is a 9 rounds Swiss open with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move from the beginning of the game.
The prize fund amounts to Rs.1, 50,000, to be distributed as follows: 1st - Rs. 40,000; 2nd – Rs. 25,000; 3rd – Rs. 15,000; 4th – Rs. 10,000, etc.
There will also be prizes for best veteran, best female, best unrated player and four age categories winners.
The huge amount of registered players – no less than 696 – show that chess is increasing in popularity in Chennai. This region will host the upcoming world championship match between Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand.
