Fast Facts: Over 350B tweets since 2006 Nov 3rd 2013, 21:29 SAN FRANCISCO—Twitter came to life on March 21, 2006, when the account of cofounder Jack Dorsey (@jack) automatically sent out the first tweet: "just setting up my twttr."   More than 350 billion tweets have since gone out worldwide from some 232 million active users, as of June.
